In contrast to the historic churches it neighbors, Living Savior was founded fairly recently, in 1984. The young Lutheran church underwent significant construction in 2010, adding a brand new sanctuary. As part of the church's efforts to reach out to George Mason students and other young Christians, "contemporary" services are regularly held at Living Savior. The church works to support abused women and children in the area and also works to feed the hungry in local communities. Church youth go on mission trips annually; members have traveled to the Gulf Coast for a number of mission trips over the past five years. One church member remarks that services are attended by "a wide range of ages," including many young families, George Mason professors and "a lot of young adults, because of the college."
