Dr. Johnathan Bernard is a board certified/fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder, knee, and arthroscopic surgery. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and he hold a Certificate of Added Qualifications as a Sports Medicine Specialist. His surgical practice cares for all athletes, from recreation level to elite. He has an interest in joint preservation procedures, meniscal tears, ACL reconstruction/revision, rotator cuff disorders, shoulder replacements and sports-related injuries and trauma. Dr. Bernard is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Johns Hopkins Medicine and team physician for the Washington Commanders and a member of AAOS, AANA, AOSSM, and NFL Physicians Society. After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy, he received his combined MD/MPH from Yale School of Medicine and Harvard School of Public Health. He completed his orthopedic residency at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions and completed his sports medicine and shoulder fellowship at Hospital For Special Surgery in New York, where he was team physician for the New York Giants. He then completed an AO Trauma Fellowship in Geneva Switzerland.
