The Hargis Library in Gloucester Point, VA is home to the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS), a leading coastal and marine sciences research institute and state agency in Virginia. With a team of over 500 faculty, staff, and students spread across three campus locations, VIMS focuses on conducting research, providing scientific advice, and offering world-class education in coastal and marine sciences.
VIMS's Batten School offers M.A., M.S., and Ph.D. programs to address pressing challenges in estuarine, coastal, and marine systems, while also conducting outreach and education programs for various groups to foster an engaged citizenry prepared to address global change, reaching over 30,000 individuals annually.
