Hampton University is a private, nonprofit, coeducational institute of higher learning located in Hampton, Va. Its curriculum emphasis is scientific and professional with a strong liberal arts undertone. The university offers 38 bachelor's degree programs, 14 master's degree programs, doctoral degrees in nursing and physics and the doctor of physical therapy and pharmacy. It also offers dozens of specialized programs, including music engineering technology, marine and environmental science, entrepreneurial studies and sports management. Hampton University is composed of six schools: Business, Engineering and Technology, Liberal Arts and Education, Nursing, Pharmacy and Science. The university is a historically African-American institution but accepts students from a variety of ethnicities and backgrounds. It has enrolled students from the continents of North America, South America, Africa, Asia and Europe and many countries including Gabon, Kenya, Ghana, Japan, China, Armenia and Great Britain. Hampton was founded in 1868.
