The Forensic Science Division is a criminal laboratory that offers a range of scientific and technical support services. It maintains and certifies breath testing instruments that are used to detect the presence of alcohol. The division provides crime scene investigation solutions. The Forensic Science Division identifies, preserves and compares various skin impressions, including fingerprints, palm prints and footprints. It also examines samples of hair, fiber, paint and glass evidences. The division serves the law enforcement community. The Forensic Science Division specializes in the examination of weapons and ammunition, as well as toolmarks and fracture matches. The division is a part of the Montana Department of Justice.
