The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department was established in 1949 and provides fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical, technical and water rescue services. Located in Fairfax, Va., it also offers hazardous material, life safety education, and fire and arson investigation services. The department provides copies of fire accident and incident reports. Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department houses a fleet of equipment that includes ambulances, automatic external defibrillators, brush trucks, engines, rescue squads and trucks. It operates a personnel services bureau that is responsible for the direction and oversight of safety services and training, as well as a women's program, volunteer liaison and professional standards offices. The department also maintains a business services bureau that provides the internal infrastructure for the department in the areas of budget, finance, resource and facility management, logistics, information technology, fire inspections and investigations, strategic planning and communications.
