Lutie Lewis Coates Elementary School opened in 2009 and is one of the newest schools in the Fairfax County Public School system. The school is named after beloved educator Lutie Coates, who taught at Floris Colored School prior to teaching in Fairfax County Public Schools after schools were desegregated. The school offers an array of new technology and equipment, including Smart Boards, digital cameras and computer stations for students. The principal of Coates Elementary is Karen Siple.
