Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, founded in 1981, is a nonprofit corporation based in Virginia that feeds hungry people in the community. Its food bank has distributed more than 80 million pounds of food throughout its service area that includes over 25 counties. The organization is one of the regional member food banks and food rescue programs of the United States Food Bank Network, which is one of the largest charitable hunger-relief organizations in the country. It is also a member of the Federation of Virginia Food Banks, a state association representing America's Second Harvest affiliated food banks in Virginia and the District of Columbia. The organization s network includes more than five regional food banks in over 10 locations, and nearly 3,000 local community agencies and programs. Blue Ridge Area Food Bank works to promote food bank initiatives and solve critical issues by developing statewide partnerships, services and programs that provide food, funding, education, advocacy, outreach and awareness. The organization is headquartered in Verona, Va.
