Amherst County High School is a four-year public school that enrolls more than 1,400 students. The high school is located in Amherst, Va., and provides academic education and higher learning opportunities to students in grades nine through 12. The school is a part of Amherst County Public Schools. Its curriculum includes English, mathematics, world geography, economics, fine arts, foreign languages, science and social studies. Additionally, it provides advanced-placement courses in engineering and design technology, marketing, industrial trades, and courses in accounting, the United States and Virginia history and government. Amherst County High School additionally organizes various extracurricular activities, such as music, jazz band, photography, theater and the National Honor Society program. The school also provides ACT and SAT preparation classes, and health and physical education programs. It has a library that provides curriculum books, fiction and nonfiction books, biographies and Internet search tools.
