The Virginia Tech Advanced Research Institute, formerly known as the Alexandria Research Institute, was established in 1998 to position the College of Engineering as a multi-disciplinary research organization in Northern Virginia. Its mission is to develop an internationally recognized center for engineering and technology research and development, fostering innovative research, technology development, and high-tech manpower training. ARI collaborates with industry, government institutions, and other universities to tackle multi-disciplinary problems of regional, national, and global significance.
Located in Arlington, VA, ARI brings together faculty, students, and visiting researchers from various fields to create a multidisciplinary environment for the emergence of new ideas and collaborations. It is a founding member of the Virginia Coastal Energy Research Consortium and provides resources to address job creation and economic development issues in the state of Virginia.
