Founded in 1967, the Vermont League of Cities and Towns is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that serves the municipal officials in Vermont. The league provides information on local governments to residents. It conducts educational workshops and offers consulting services. The Vermont League of Cities and Towns also provides insurance coverage options for municipalities. It operates a municipal assistance center that offers legal and educational support services. The league responds to telephone inquiries from municipal officials and maintains a clearinghouse of model ordinances and bylaws. In addition, the Vermont League of Cities and Towns publishes handbooks and informational posters. It provides advocacy services and represents municipal interests in Congress and federal agencies through its membership in the National League of Cities. The league organizes town fairs that attract more than 500 attendees annually.
