History
The Tempest was a branch of Middlebury's Vermont Book Shop until 1977. The current owner- RIck Rayfield- took over from his mother and stepfather in 1986, resigning from a tenured teaching/research position at Roosevelt University. He and his wife Holliday have four daughters. We were also the Mad River Valley's music store until the music retail business collapsed. We have over 5000 movies on our DVD rental wall, and specialize in tracking down titles. With some fame measuring VO2 max with computers, we do electronic repairs, mostly watch batteries. RIck's bread at the Tempest is for sale Saturdays to defray the regular baking for food shelves, school, community suppers, etc. New books cover a wide range of interests. Used books benefit the local food shelf. We expertly search out and obtain new and used books for our customers.
