Established on 1970, the Vermont Criminal Information Center, also known as VCIC, is a repository for several criminal record information systems. It maintains criminal record information generated by criminal justice agencies throughout Vermont. The center consolidates and verifies arrest, prosecution, sentencing and correctional information provided by agencies into a criminal history format. The Vermont Criminal Information Center is responsible for processing requests for criminal history record checks from authorized criminal justice agencies and noncriminal justice agencies. The center maintains the files of photographs of defendants taken at the time of arrest and incarceration. It is also responsible for collecting, editing and analyzing reported crime data from law enforcement agencies.
