The Chiapas Media Project, now a project of the Americas Media Initiative, was founded in 1998 as a bi-national collaboration that facilitated the production and distribution of video, radio, and multimedia. They worked closely with Zapatista communities in Chiapas, Mexico, building and equipping four regional media centers. Collaboratively producing 32 documentaries, their films were screened at numerous film festivals worldwide, establishing them as one of the pioneering bi-national indigenous media projects in Latin America.
Currently known as Promedios de Comunicación Comunitaria, a Mexican NGO based in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, Promedios continues to provide audiovisual training and technical support to indigenous and non-indigenous communities in Southern Mexico. Their dedication to empowering communities through media has made them a vital resource in promoting communication and cultural expression.
