The appraisal firm was started in 1981 by William Benton. A 1978 graduate of the University of Vermont with a BA in Economics, Bill obtained a real estate sales license and worked with Paul Heald at Foulsham Farms Real Estate selling unique country property in Chittenden and Addison Counties. Complementing his real estate position in sales, Bill participated in the first Vermont Housing Finance Agency/Home Mortgage Guarantee Board appraisal licensing course and exam. In October 1980, he became the youngest VHFA/VHMGB certified appraiser in the State of Vermont at age 24. The appraisal business was started in 1981 and the firm incorporated as W.D. Benton Inc., Appraisers in 1986. The firm consists of appraiser William Benton and staff Kristin Benton and Linda Devino. Bill has been performing appraisals in Addison County since 1981 and has served as the Tax Assessor for the Town of Middlebury since 1988. He has served as a Lister for the City of Vergennes and the Town of Waltham and has performed assessment consulting with other municipalities. Bill is responsible for all property inspection, data collection, data analysis and final report preparation. Kristin Benton, Bill's wife, prepares all APEX floor plan sketches that are incorporated in reports as well as all financial accounting aspects of the business. In addition, she owns Hollyhocks Flowers in Vergennes. Linda Devino has worked with us since 1987 performing data entry, photo maintenance and technology services. W.D. Benton Inc., Appraisers has performed over 6, 000 fee appraisals and 3, 000 assessments since its inception in 1981. We have provided expert witness testimony in Addison, Chittenden, Washington and Palm Beach County Superior Courts as well as Federal Bankruptcy Court.
