History
Founded in 1952 at Pan American College as an orchestra of volunteer musicians, the Valley Symphony Orchestra has grown into a fully professional 85-member ensemble with a 120+ voice, volunteer, community-based Valley Symphony Chorale. Since its beginnings, the VSO has played a leading role in the cultural life of our community. Even today the orchestra utilizes dozens of local musicians- private music instructors, public and private school band and orchestra directors, college music professors, and area professionals - with a resulting impact that resonates far beyond the concert stage. As a Valley-wide artistic asset, throughout its proud history, the VSO has performed the length and breadth of the Rio Grande Valley as well as concerts south of the border in Monterrey, Saltillo and Ciudad Victoria. The Valley Symphony Orchestra provides the Rio Grande Valley with exciting musical performances from classical to POPS concerts, held at McAllen Performing Arts Center.
