Created in 1955 as a political subdivision of the state of Texas, Trinity River Authority provides valuable services to the public, including wastewater treatment, water treatment, recreation and reservoir facilities. TRA also serves as a conduit for tax-exempt financing for municipal water and wastewater facilities, industrial air and water pollution control facilities. Additionally, Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas, which were founded on the banks of the Trinity River in the mid-1800s, totally dominate the upper Trinity River basin. The Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex is the largest inland population center in the United States and has always had a profound impact on water quality. The organization is located in Arlington, Texas.
