History
The Historic Texas Theatre was originally built in 1929. It was destroyed 10 years later by a fire and rebuilt only to be ravaged by fire once again and rebuilt another time. In the 60's the Texas was home to a movie theatre with the projection room now home to costume and prop storage. Live theatre returned to the Texas in the late 70's and early 80's when a group of individual investors purchased the building and formed the Dogwood Players, later to be incorporated as a 501(c)(3) as Palestine Community Theatre, Inc. (PCT) After years of high-quality, family-friendly productions, in the early 90's, due to roof maintenance issues, the Texas was again shut down, and PCT was forced to produce shows in other locations until, through the dedication and work of a handful of concerned citizens, the theatre was restored and reopened in its current state in 2005.
