Established in 1949 as the Texas Youth Development Council, the Texas Youth Commission promotes public safety by operating juvenile correctional facilities. The commission offers a variety of individualized education, treatment and employment training programs. It also provides work force development, parole and volunteer services programs. The commission reports youth mistreatment, fraud and illegal activities. It complies with the federal, local and state laws. The commission maintains the Corsicana Residential Treatment Center, Gainesville State School, Crockett State School and West Texas State School. The Texas Youth Commission also operates Giddings State School, which is responsible for the rehabilitation of delinquent youths.
