The Texas Department of Criminal Justice manages offenders in state prisons, state jails and private correctional facilities that contract with it. The agency also provides funding and oversight of community supervision, previously known as adult probation, and is responsible for the supervision of offenders released from prison on parole or mandatory supervision. It is governed by a nine-member board appointed by the governor. The agency s rehabilitation and reentry programs division administers various programs that emphasis on the rehabilitation and re-entry of offenders into the community. Its victim services division provides various services, such as toll-free number for victims and their families, victim offender mediation and dialogue, victim notification, automated victim notification system and prison tours. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice is located in Huntsville, Texas.
