Schertz Emergency Medical Services is a department of the city of Schertz, Texas that provides emergency medical services and ambulance transportation to the greater Randolph region in the state. It began as a volunteer group of local citizens who responded to help their neighbors and was known as the Schertz Area Facility for Emergency Services or SAFES, Established in 1974, the department provides ambulance services to Schertz and the surrounding areas. Schertz Emergency Medical Services operates 24-hour mobile intensive care unit ambulances. It employs a work force of more than 35 full- and part-time paramedics and emergency medical technician-intermediates who respond to nearly 7,000 requests for emergency services annually.
