Promise House, founded in 1984, is an independent agency and is governed by a voluntary board of directors. It offers more than eight programs for runaway, homeless and at-risk youth. Its services include emergency youth shelter, case management, transitional living, parent education, alternative day school, street outreach and drug, and alcohol prevention and education. The agency also offers counseling and pregnant and parenting teen services. Promise House is licensed by the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services and serves more than 46,000 people. It also publishes a newsletter to develop community involvement. Located in Dallas, the agency is funded by companies, organizations, foundation grants and individuals. It accepts support in terms of food, household items, clothes, educational supplies, computer equipment, furnishings, appliances and specialized services.
