Founded in 1987, Myrtle Cooper Elementary School is a year-round school that enrolls more than 680 students in prekindergarten through grade six. It was named after late Myrtle Cooper who served as the Socorro Independent School District s first superintendent in 1961. The school s academic curriculum also includes various subjects, such as social studies, math, science, music and physical education. It also offers Title I, bilingual education and after-school day care programs. The school s guidance program includes monthly classroom guidance lessons, individual and group counseling, parenting classes and involvement with peer mediation and Partners in Education programs. Its library has a collection of more than 19,000 books, over 50 periodicals, reference materials, teaching resources, audiovisual equipment and computer stations. Myrtle Cooper Elementary School is a part of the Socorro Independent School District and is located in El Paso, Texas.
