Congress entrusted the four historic missions of San Antonio to the care of the National Park Service in 1978. The missions opened as a national park in 1983. Los Compadres was chartered as the official Friends' group to the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park in 1983. Los Compadres raises funds for special projects at the Park for which no government funds are available. Our goals are to provide financial and volunteer support for the preservation and restoration of the four missions and historic irrigation systems and their development into America's premier Spanish Colonial National Park. To that end, Los Compadres has raised over $3.9 million for projects at the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. Los Compadres sponsors several membership activities, open to the public, which are geared to bring people to the park. These fun-filled family outings have generated a tremendous appreciation of our historic treasures.
