James Madison High School is governed by the Houston Independent School District. Founded in 1965 and based in Houston, the school offers classes from grades nine through 12. Its curriculum includes a wide range of subjects, such as math, foreign languages, special education, social studies, fine arts, science, physical education, history, English and journalism. James Madison High School offers various activities and organizations for students, including a band, chess club, drill team, basketball and soccer teams, student council and sports marketing teams. The school also has library and computer laboratories, and reading and study laboratories for providing a variety of learning resources to students. It offers special programs for gifted students, such as geology, environmental science, oceanography, broadcast meteorology, manned space flight and astronomy.
