Katy High School is a secondary school offering educational instruction to students from grades nine through 12. Located in Katy, Texas, the school enrolls more than 2,500 students and is a part of the Katy Independent School District. It was opened in 1900 to serve the children of the local rice farmers. The school provides advanced placement classes, dual credit courses, fundamental courses, and a variety of career and technology preparation classes. It also organizes various extracurricular activities that include competitions, such as academic challenge, academic decathlon and academic octathlon; enrichment activities, such as Close Up; and clubs in special interest areas, such as computer science, geography, foreign languages and statistics. It also has service groups, such as the Good Sportsmanship League, DARE Role Models, Best Buddies, Interact and Peer Mentors; academic-area groups, including yearbook, newspaper, art history, photography, cooking, chess and creative writing; and National Honor Society. Katy High School s colors are red and white and its mascot is a tiger.
