The Health and Human Services Commission of the state of Texas oversees the operations of the health and human services system. It also provides administrative oversight of Texas health and human services programs and provides direct administration to some programs. The Health and Human Services Commission employs more than 9,300 personnel. The commission conducts various programs, including Medicaid, Children's Health Insurance Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Food Stamps and Nutritional Programs, Family Violence Services and Disaster Assistance. It offers a range of services that includes system planning and evaluation, policy development and rule making, early childhood coordination, and fraud and abuse prevention and detection. The Health and Human Services Commission is headquartered in Austin, Texas.
