Founded in 1924, Houston SPCA, also known as the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, is one of the oldest and largest animal protection organizations in Houston. It serves more than 90,000 animals annually. The organization offers pet adoption, admission, sheltering, clinical, cruelty investigation, 24-hour injured animal rescue, and lost and found services. Houston SPCA also provides animal behavior and human educational programs. It operates a retail shop to offer pet food products and gift items. In addition, the organization conducts dog training classes. Houston SPCA is funded by donations from various individuals, community-minded businesses, and gifts and grants from charitable foundations. It has a staff of over 400 volunteers.
