Critter Care Veterinary Clinic was opened by Dr. Sandra Leyendecker on November 8, 2004. The clinic specializes in small, large and exotic animal medicine and surgery. Critter Care is located at 5837 Northgate Lane, Suite 100, at Mann Road.
Dr. Leyendecker has treated thousands of animals, including dogs, cats, furred and feathered patients since she arrived in Laredo. The clinic offers a variety of services including: medicine, surgical, dentistry, digital radiology, laser surgery and after hours emergency care, among others. Opening the practice has been a lifelong ambition and goal for Dr. Leyendecker.
Dr. Leyendecker was born and raised in Laredo, Graduated from Nixon High School in 1976. She attended LCC for two years before attending TAMU where she earned her bachelors in agricultural education in 1982 and then a masters in agricultural education in 1983. In 1994 she earned her doctorate's degree in veterinary medicine at Texas A&M University in College Station. She work for the USDA ARS (Agricultural Research Service) for 10 years, developing exams to test food animals for drug residues, worked with e. coli and salmonella, as well as working with bacterial drug resistance. In Dec. 2000, she moved back to Laredo and worked with Dr. John Spruiell, on Clark Boulevard, for four years before opening her own clinic, in November 2004.
Dr. Leyendecker has said that her immense love for animals has always been the driving force behind her success. "I grew up in a farm, with a lot of animals," she said "I almost have a zoo in my house now."
Our hours of operation are Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9am to 6:00pm with the doctor out of the office from 12pm to 2pm, Tuesdays from 12pm to 8:00pm.
