The Consumer Protection Division, governed by the Office of the Attorney General, protects consumers and legitimate business communities by filing civil lawsuits under the Deceptive Trade Practices Act and other consumer protection statutes. It files consumer complaints and offers educational services on frauds and scams. The division also provides legal assistance solutions for citizens. The Consumer Protection Division offers information related to training for bank tellers, foreclosure prevention and concealing credit card numbers on receipts. It additionally provides registration and filing services for charities and nonprofit organizations. The division maintains various office locations in Texas and offers identity theft protection solutions.
