Brazos Electric Power Cooperative is a 2,403-megawatt generation and transmission organization with a service territory that extends across 68 counties from the Texas Panhandle to Houston. Brazos Electric's mission is to generate, procure and transmit reliable power at the lowest possible cost. Owned by its member cooperatives, the Brazos Electric board of directors is comprised of one representative from each of its 17 member-owner distribution cooperatives and three municipal systems. Organized in 1941, Brazos Electric was the first cooperative formed in Texas for the purpose of generating and supplying electrical power. Today, it is one of the largest generation and transmission cooperative in Texas. Brazos Electric is the wholesale power supplier for its cooperatives and municipal systems, and provides services for the Mid-Tex cooperatives. It is headquartered in Waco, Texas.
