Founded in 1976, Avondale House is a nonprofit agency that provides a school, a day habilitation program and residential services for children and young adults with autism and other pervasive developmental disorders. The school provides a nurse, physician, psychologist and speech therapist as consultants to the facility. It assesses the needs of each student with an individual educational plan with goals and objectives designed to meet individual developmental and educational needs. The school is accredited as a nongraded special education school by the National Private Schools Accreditation Alliance. Avondale provides residential services to individuals aged 4 to 30, with at least two staff members on duty at all times to provide training and supervision essential to each resident s development. Avondale s day habilitation program teaches daily living skills training includes such activities such as setting the table for meals, making a bed, folding and hanging clothes and using a microwave.
