Department of Public Safety
Established in 1935, Texas Department of Public Safety is headquartered in Austin, Texas. The department provides law enforcement and crime prevention services. It operates administration, highway patrol and driver's license divisions. It has an emergency management division that specializes in support and disaster recovery programs during floods, fires, hurricanes and earthquakes. Texas Department of Public Safety also manages records, emergencies and responds to emergency and nonemergency calls for police service. The department operates a criminal law enforcement division that intervenes in the cases of gambling, frauds, narcotics trafficking, vehicle thefts and public corruption. Its intelligence division arrests fugitives, executes search warrants, develops informants, and conducts interviews, investigations and polygraph exams.
