History
Alma Latina restaurants began as a very humble taqueria concept developed by Jose Marquez. For many years, the taquerias were the sole focus of the small chain and allowed the Marquez the opportunity to open 4 locations throughout the Houston area. In 2003 the company was taken over by Roy Marquez, a hotel and restaurant management graduate from the University of Houston and son of Jose, who decided to take the restaurant brand in a new direction. The existing Alma Latinas would stay as taquerias but future ventures would change to full Mexican restaurants. Under the new concept, Alma Latina Heights and Alma Latina Kingwood were born, complete with full bar service, including tequila bar and boutique wine options. Today, the Heights location remains a staple in the eclectic neighborhood offering the best margaritas and sizzling fajitas in the Heights!
