Umoja Johnson City, TN is a cultural organization that has been providing Northeast Tennessee with entertaining and educational opportunities for over 25 years. Comprised of approximately 12 board members, Umoja aims to bridge and unify diverse cultures through artistic presentations of art, culture, and heritage, improving and promoting the region.
Unity is at the heart of Umoja's annual festival, which has a history of successful celebrations spanning over two decades. Originally starting as an annual Unity Picnic in 1978, the festival was revived in 1997 with a new format and renamed Umoja Unity Day Festival. Today, the festival attracts over 30,000 people and offers a variety of food and merchandise vendors, entertainment, information booths, music, and fun games for all ages.
