The Tennessee General Assembly is a legislative authority under the constitution of Tennessee. It consists of a Senate and a House of Representatives. The assembly has more than 30 senators and over 90 representatives. The General Assembly enacts, amends and repeals the laws of Tennessee. It acts as a legislative body for the House, Senate and Joint Committees. The assembly s legislative council is responsible for bill drafting, printing, distribution and sale, and resolutions and amendments and informational reports on bill status. It is also responsible for the preparation of bill summaries and floor calendars, staffing committees and maintaining a rudimentary computer bill tracking system. The General Assembly has a Speaker that appoints the chief clerk, chief engrossing clerk and chief sergeant-at-arms, as well as officers and members of standing committee. The assembly is located in Nashville, Tenn.
