Established in 1844, the Tennessee School for the Blind offers a variety of vocational and training programs for students with visual impairments. It serves students in kindergarten through grade 12. The school is affiliated with the Tennessee Department of Education. It conducts classes in math, science, technology education, and family and consumer science. The school s orientation and mobility training includes use of cane and low vision devices to travel on campus and commercial and downtown areas. Tennessee School for the Blind s music program includes piano and voice therapy classes. The school supports sports activities, such as wrestling, cheerleading, golf, and track and field. It also offers extracurricular activities, including scouts, radio station, forensics team and exercise club. In addition, the school provides on-campus residential services.
