The Springfield Fire Department works to provide a range of emergency medical first response, rescue, public education, and fire suppression, prevention and safety inspection services. The department maintains a fleet of front-line pumper, 100-foot aerial platform ladder and brush fire trucks. It is responsible for inspecting commercial and industrial buildings for fire hazards and safety issues. The Springfield Fire Department also responds to emergency calls. It works to conduct training programs related to vehicle extrication and defensive driving. The department is governed by the city of Springfield in Tennessee, which also manages electric, engineering, gas, human resources, and parks and recreation departments.
