The Nashville Predators are a professional ice hockey team and one of five clubs in the Central Division of the National Hockey League s Western Conference. The name Predators was chosen to complement the team logo, an image of a saber-toothed tiger. The logo was selected because the remains of a saber-toothed tiger were once unearthed in Nashville, Tenn. In 1997, the Predators joined the NHL. The Predators played their first season in 1998-99. The team s current head coach, Barry Trotz, led Nashville s first team to a 28-47-7 record. Craig Leipold is the majority owner of the Predators and serves as the team s chairman and chief executive officer. The Predators play at the Gaylord Entertainment Center.
