Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, founded in 1916, is a cultural complex consisting of more than 25 galleries, art classrooms, a print study room with over 4,500 works of art, a research library with over 5,000 volumes, and an auditorium. It is a registered United States National Landmark, providing facilities such as the Brooks Museum Store, Brushmark Restaurant and the Holly Court garden. It is one of the largest fine arts museums in the state of Tennessee, with a total of 86,000-square-feet of which 36,600 is devoted to the display of art. The museum s collection includes Italian Renaissance and Baroque paintings and sculptures, English portraits, European and American paintings, sculpture and decorative arts, and a collection of drawings, watercolor canvases, prints and photographs. Memphis Brooks Museum of Art also hosts world-class traveling exhibitions, providing the community with an opportunity to learn about the visual arts from Africa, Asia, Europe, north America and Soth America.
