The Department of Children's Services is a public child welfare agency that provides child protection, foster care and adoption programs for delinquent youths. The department also offers probation, after-care, and treatment and rehabilitation programs for identified youths, as well as issues licenses for all child welfare agencies. The Department of Children's Services responds to more than 37,000 reports of child abuse and neglect annually. It offers a range of treatment services, including individual and group counseling, medical and dental treatment, academic and vocational training, transportation and substance abuse rehabilitation. The Department of Children's Services is a part of the state of Tennessee, which also operates finance and administration, agriculture, health, security and revenue departments.
