History
The Behavioral Medicine Institute (BMI), based in Knoxville, Tennessee, is a group of practitioners specializing in the application of the Biopsychosocial Model of health and disease. We provide evaluation and treatment of the psychological aspects of physical disorders and of stress-related disorders. BMI clinicians also treat the full range of general mental health disorders. The group includes psychologists, clinical social workers, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and licensed professional counselors. It was founded in 1990. We offer empirically-validated assessments and treatment programs for a variety of problems. We routinely follow a collaborative care model, coordinating our work with the patient's other medical providers. We are also experienced in the integrated care model, and several of our satellite offices are located within other area medical practices.
