In 1696, Puritans in Massachusetts were granted 4,050 acres in the new colony of South Carolina. The congregation of Summerville Presbyterian Church weathered the war between the states and the great earthquake of 1889.The church hosts regular services, Bible studies, youth groups and seasonal activities and is involved in a variety of ministries at home and abroad. Locally the church participates in Meals on Wheels, My Sister's House, HELP of Summerville and Palmetto House.
