Proud TRADITION, a unique PRODUCT and delicious PIZZA! The story of DiCarlo's Pizza can be told based on these three words, which has captured the heart of the family's philosophy for nearly 100 years. In the early 1900's, Michael and Caroline DiCarlo owned and operated an Italian grocery store in Steubenville, Ohio and later extended their endeavors into the bakery business, which lead to the birth of the one and only Original DiCarlo's Famous Bread! Michael and Caroline who had immigrated from Sora, Italy, along with their 6 children ran all facets of their business enterprises. Returning home to Steubenville from serving in World War II, Michael's oldest son Primo described a dish that was popular in Italy. It was a delicacy consisting of crispy bread covered with sauce and cheese and it had been sold in many of the Italian cafes. His ingenious idea would eventually lead to the grand opening of the very first DiCarlo's Pizza shop located on 146 South 3rd street in Steubenville.
