Dr. Matthew Geswell is an Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine at MUSC Health – Lancaster. He completed his undergraduate work at Hobart College in Geneva, NY, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a minor in Health Professions. He was a four-year starter on the Hobart College Varsity Soccer team, making 4 NCAA tournament appearances and serving as captain his senior season. Dr. Geswell then received his M.D. from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, earning Alpha Omega Alpha honors and volunteering as Community Outreach Coordinator for the NYMC student-run clinic helping underserved patients in East Harlem. He completed his residency training at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania, a level I trauma center, where he was named chief resident for his 5th year. Dr. Geswell then returned to New York to pursue subspecialty fellowship training in Orthopedic Sports Medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital. He had the opportunity to work alongside the team of physicians for the New York Jets. Dr. Geswell's main areas of interest include sports medicine and general orthopedics. His sports medicine fellowship provided additional training in various arthroscopic procedures for the knee, shoulder, hip, ankle, and elbow. Dr. Geswell also has a passion for general orthopedics, including fracture care and knee and shoulder joint replacement. In his free time, Dr. Geswell enjoys most outdoor activities such as playing or watching sports, golfing, skiing, fishing, boating, and running.
