Parents move to Barrington for the schools. It's a reality, not a perception. "There is a culture of advocacy for children," says Dr. Robert O. McIntyre, Superintendent of Schools. "There is a genuine interest in helping children grow." A high school, a middle school and four elementary schools serve the 3,500 students in this district. Each school is recognized for quality instruction and teachers who receive cutting-edge professional development. Hampden Meadows serves pupils in grades 4 to 5. Neighborhood schools Nayatt, Primrose Hill and Sowams serve pupils in grades K to 3. The middle school serves students from grades 6 to 8. The high school serves students in grades 9 to 12.
The school department has two assistant superintendents, Betty A. Calise, responsible for curriculum and instruction, and Ronald D. Tarro, responsible for administration and finance. A five-member School Committee is elected for four-year terms. It meets twice each month during the school year usually on the first and third Thursdays.
