Rhode Island's department of environmental management fish and wildlife division maintains over 3,000 acres of wildland in West Kingston. Hunting is permitted within season with a license. The area is great for passive pursuits like hiking, bird watching, kayaking and canoeing. The William C. O'Neill bike path runs through the area for a scenic ride.
There is a state run gun target range on site open only between April 1 and September 30. A permit is required and you must attend a range safety briefing prior to use. Permit applications are accepted by mail only from February 1 thru September 20 each year. Applications for permit are available online.
