CBD stands for CannaBiDiol, one of over 100 chemical compounds derived from cannabis, the marijuana plant. It is not the derivative which contains THC, the psychoactive ingredient that makes you feel stoned. For maximum absorption, CBD is combined with a soluble carrier lipid (MCT) made from coconut or palm oils. We are only now learning more about the endocannabinoid system which keeps all our other body functions in balance or homeostasis. When we experience stress or feel threatened, these systems respond in several ways. Chemicals such as cortisol and adrenaline are produced. The heart races. The chest tightens. Blood pressure goes up. Fortunately, there are millions of cannabinoid receptors-in the brain, glands, connective tissue, organs and throughout the central nervous, reproductive and immune systems. This "bioavailability" allows the body to return to normal or achieve stasis through the healing properties of CBD.
