Brown University is an Ivy League institution that includes 143 acres on College Hill. It additionally rents properties in the city of Providence, and the Haffenreffer estate and waterfront property in Bristol, R.I. Brown owns 235 buildings, comprising of more than 6 million square feet of space. The university s student body enrollment is more than 7,400 undergraduates and graduate and medical students. Its enrollment of undergraduates are from all 50 states and more than 70 countries. Brown University first organized a medical program in 1811, following examples set by its New England neighbors, Harvard and Dartmouth. In June 1962, the University Board of Fellows formally approved a program in medical education. In 1972, the Corporation approved the full MD program and in 1973 the clinical component of Brown's medical education was launched. Full accreditation as a four-year medical school was granted in 1975.
