WITF is a multimedia organization that offers public broadcasting to central Pennsylvania. The nonprofit company, which is funded by private and business contributions and government grants, formed in 1963 and launched public television station WITF-TV the following year. WITF added an FM radio station, WITF-FM, to its stable in 1971 and began a monthly magazine, now called Central PA, in the summer of 1985. The group made history in 1998 by launching Pennsylvania s first digital television station, then expanded its public media services with an award-winning Web site, ExplorePAhistory.com, and a radio news operation, Public Radio Capitol News. Originally based in Hershey, Pa., WITF has been located in Harrisburg, Pa., since 1982.
